...........tiny quilts for premmies
These little 40x40 cm (16") quilts are for Ronald McDonald House, one of this month's charities for the Aussie group, Knit4Charities. They'll be given to the parents of sick or pre-term babies who stay in the house so they can be close to their babies, who have to stay in hospital.
I had made these blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge in 2016, so with a bit of sashing and some borders, they've been turned into nice little quilts for a good cause.
I'll be making some for the little boys as well, so better get back to the quilting before the day gets really hot.
till next time..........
How lovely, Nanette. It is ONLY 32C but still too hot for me :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Chelle. About mid-30s here, too hot now in my sewing room.....maybe we just feel it more now that we're senior women 😉
DeleteGorgeous, but how heart-breaking that a 16 inch square is big enough... such tiny babies. What a great use for your blocks. It's still 27°C here at 2.30am, and we've just had a burst of rain, not enough to do any good, but enough to ensure it's bloody steamy when the sun comes up. Ah well, that's the Wet season for you.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I wrapped a little doll I'd made in one, just to make sure it was going to drape softly...had a little tear to think that will soon be someone's teeny baby....hopefully the little wraps give them some comfort. We've been lucky to have cool nights where it gets down to low 20s, a reprieve, but then once the sun's up, as you say, doesn't take long for the heat to kick in. Stay cool.
DeleteA lovely thing to do and I'm sure much appreciated at a difficult time.
ReplyDeleteA little bit of normalcy and cheer when they get to hold their babies, instead of just tubes and a naked baby.
DeleteIt's beautiful. I can't imagine such tiny babies. I'm sure they will be so comfortable in your soft quilts.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are staying cool. We had a very cold weekend and now its' warming up again.
I think the parents enjoy having something bright and soft for their babies in the sterile ward area. It's not too bad heatwise, I'm used to doing things like sewing early, before the house heats up too much, then moving to the other side where it's cooler and doing something else. I must be getting old, I've even had the air con on a couple of times so I sit and do hand sewing then. Stay warm, it's been quite a cold start to the year in the US.
DeleteWhat a beautiful warmth those sweet little quilts will give, Nanette. Just lovely! Meg:)
ReplyDeleteNice. And a great use for stray blocks. And 16 x 16 works up quickly and uses batting scraps as well. It does give one pause to consider that baby that it fits though. claire aka knitnkwilt
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use those scrappy blocks. Keep up the good work!
