RSC May - a start

A new month, a new colour. Angela has chosen pink and rose pink for us this month.  I made two churn dashes,

and two crumb blocks.

I have a lot of strips and crumbs in these colours, but not a lot of larger pieces to make hst for my churn dashes, so it'll be an interesting month.  I'll have to be creative, or make tiny churn dashes!

I sewed  those yellow crumb blocks from last month together, adding white sashing and borders.

I need to add more borders to make it a bit bigger, and found a kind of caramel coloured solid to use for a first narrow border, but the only large yellowy pieces I have in my stash are chickens........

or oranges.........

This will be donated for a child's comfort quilt, so either pattern will work,  I like the chickens, they're fun, and have a similar mix of yellows, golds and oranges as the scrappy blocks, but I'm not absolutely convinced. It looks like a trip to Spotlight this week to see if I can find something that works better.

ScrapHappy Saturday on Sunday

Pink on a grey day

I dragged myself away from watching cyclone updates to work on some scrappy sewing.  First were pink wonky log cabins...my favourite to sew when I'm feeling distracted.

Half a dozen blocks made and a few more in various stages of completion

Then browsing Pinterest I came across Kath Hall, an Aussie woman who blogs at Wombat Quilts and has an absolute plethora of scrappy quilts.  It was the wonky stars that caught my eye, and I absolutely loved this one.  Then I spied this wonky star  with a novelty kids print for the star centres. I want to make a couple of littlie's quilts for a charity and thought this would be perfect.  Digging in my stash, I found just the right fabric, these sweet little birds, so I added some solid pink homespun for the background and scrappy pink star points and here it is, the first block.

This is a 12" finished block, I have all the 5" blocks cut ready to go and 8 more blocks to make.

The weather remains wild and wet, the last ditch effects of ex-cyclone Marcia which is sitting off the coast, not too far away, and still making her damp and unwelcome presence felt...perfect sewing weather.

And how about this lovely all pretty in pink?........

Pink

Linking up late with the RSC 15 February Week 1.....another wonky star

Wonky alright!  I didn't realise when I started that I had only a small amount of white left, so a couple of the star points are quite small.  Never mind, the finished quilt is to be just for me, and I think I can live with it.  I might even make another when I get some more white, not to make a "perfect" one, but two in different shades of pink might be nice.

Nothing else done last week for the scrappy challenge.  You can check out all the other pink blocks on Angela's blog, there's some great projects underway.
